Paint - Intumescent (external)
Intumescent Paint is a thin film coating applied to structural steel to protect against fire. Coatings are generally applied by spray and are primarily used to achieve up to one-hour fire resistance on fully exposed steel members. Some products can achieve up to 2-hours fire resistance on some larger section sizes.
The coating thickness necessary depends on the section factor (Hp/A) and the fire rating required. For all external applications a top sealer coat will be required which can be to any RAL or BS reference colour.
